Mr. Ray Mackay, a leading member of a diecast collectors' club in the south east of England obtained permission from Lesney Products to produce a promotional model celebrating the Rayleigh Swapmeet held on the 28th March 1981. The label was designed by Mr. Chris Roper. The first 45 models were allocated to the local club members and the remaining 555 mdels were sold on the day at the Swapmeet. The production run of 600 originally sold for £4.25.

Livery: (Label) - 'MODEL COLLECTORS EXTRAVAGANZA' in red within a streamer - date and location in black print.

Other Comments/Identifying Features: This is an Offical Code 2 model.
There were 1000 models made by CR Promotions, ie. Chris & Jo Roper from Bridgenorth Shropshire. Chris has explained that when they started making the model they found problems matching up the model's tampo front line to the line on his label (as this can move up and down a few mm) so he decided after making 100 of the code 2 models, to re-draw the label - so we have two variations, one with the front line on the decal (100 models made) and the other 900 models without the front line on the decal.

The model has black or red plain type 1 rear doors, black or red rear lights and "Y12" on the base plate. The baseplate is held in place by three machined rivets.

The donor models were all "Colman's" vans and a disclaimer label was stuck to the baseplate of each model stating that they were "Manufacturers Original Models used for Promotional Purposes". It comes packed in the original straw coloured box which also carries a third party label stating "Manufacturers Original Model Used For Promotional Purposes. Labels Not Applied By Lesney Products" on five lines.
